When you’re cruising St Kilda Rd in Melbourne on a horse and buggy, time slows down. You can’t be going anywhere in a hurry. Ahhhh [relaxed!]
Imagine living when this was the best transport there was. Apart from noticing the scenery, you couldn’t fit a lot into your day, so you wouldn’t try. You would have a lot more time for conversing, thinking, planning, reflecting. There’s something in that.
Now-a-days modern machination hasn’t created creatures of leisure, but busy bees – we cram more in because we can!
There’s value in being productive, but sometimes we need to be forced to do the very things that are best for us, like rest. It’s too easy to crowd out life with the exciting, and end up missing the best.
That’s why things like ‘closing time’, and ‘no signal’ can actually be redemptive!
