6000. That’s about the number of days you have with your children before they turn 18.
6000. It’s not many is it?
When you start as a parent, you often start with a flurry. You give them lots of time, read stories to them at night, ask them about their day, eat meals with them.
As they get older, they become more independent and it’s easy to get slack, to step back, let them entertain and look after themselves. Don’t do it!
Adolescence can be the hardest time of all. That’s when they need you most, not to baby them, but mentor them.
Let them grow up, but keep playing with them, sharing stories, asking them about their day. They need it more than they show.
Paul Clark’s musings can be heard on radio across Australia and at atthetop.org.au.
