Christians are often criticised for two things.

Firstly – being hypocrites – that is, not living out their beliefs. Saying one thing, doing another.
The second is bringing their beliefs into politics, or the public square. “You should keep your beliefs private.”
Immediately you will notice the problem. To tell someone not to let their faith, their beliefs, influence their politics, is to ask them to be a hypocrite.
How can people of faith win? “If you want us to take you seriously you can’t be a hypocrite; You must follow through on your beliefs – just don’t let your beliefs influence your public opinions.”
Of course, Christians are hypocrites; they hold high ideals. Of course, our beliefs influence our politics – that’s how humans work.
Double standards.
