HIT THE BALL!

Back when we were kids, we were tough.

Me and my brothers used to go to the park and play cricket, with no pads or gloves – and a real cricket ball.

My older brother used to declare that he got to bat first. Who could argue with an older brother? But that just made me try harder and bowl faster.

I used to delight in bowling my off cutters and cracking him in the shins. That would make him back off just a tad so I could hit the stumps!

We obviously used to go home with a few bruises on our legs, but I don’t remember them hurting. I think it taught us to hit the ball or be hit!

We would laugh at those using a tennis ball! Those were the days!
