THE FATHER’S HEART

Several years ago, I took my son in for some quite routine surgery. There was a production line getting the same operation, so at first it all seems fine.

But there’s something about being there when the general anesthetic takes hold and walking out of the room leaving him in the charge of others, that makes a father’s heart burst.

What relief when you are finally invited around to recovery, but then – “Look what they’ve done to my son!”

You almost wish you hadn’t put your child through it, but, at the same time, you know his life will be better for it.

Is this how God feels for every single one of us? Is this why He told us to call Him Father, nothing to do with gender, but so we could begin to feel how God feels over us.

I reckon so.
