The true test of a leader is if they can lay down power.

A remarkable thing in our society is how a government can be in power one day, and politely vacating offices the next.
In the course of history, this is a very strange thing! Most leaders only laid down power when they were forced.
A leader should not lay down power easily. We don’t want leaders who turn tail and run when things get tough.
We need leaders who know when to keep pressing on, despite the resistance; and leaders who know when they are getting in the way, and it’s time to let someone else have a go, or it’s time to share and empower someone else in the team.
Jesus re-defined leadership this way. Laying down His heavenly power, becoming a servant and dying on a cross.
