Images captured by longtime friends – Australian journalism and TV identity Ray Martin and iconic photographer Ken Duncan – during their joint – as well as separate – photographic expeditions around the world feature in a special free exhibition at Duncan’s gallery on the New South Wales Central Coast from 1st to 10th November.
Duncan first met Martin 30 years ago, which Martin was hosting The Midday Show, and while they’ve shared lunches, dinners and a few photographic forays since then, it’s only in recent years that they’ve begun to collaborate in earnest, photographically speaking.
Their adventures have included one in recent years to Australia’s Kimberly region at the end of a big wet season which resulted in the award-winning documentary, Chasing the Light, as well as a three day expedition to Lake Eyre in South Australia earlier this year.
Duncan says of Martin, who held his first solo photographic exhibition in 2017: “Ray has a great eye, the gift of knowing what makes a good photo, and a knack for capturing the decisive moment.”
He adds that Martin “doesn’t allow himself to get bound up by technicality”.
“Ray keeps it simple and gets stunning shots. In fact, most of his images are shot with a Panasonic Lumix camera”.
