SAYING GOODBYE: Driving to a funeral? How about driving through a funeral? A funeral home has opened a drive-through service for pre-funeral visitations. PICTURE: Kaique Rocha/www.pexels.com

A funeral home in Memphis in the US is reportedly offering mourners the chance to  pay their respects to the dearly departed without getting out of their car. The drive-through visitation service, offered in the hours before the funeral, allows them to view the body through a drive-through window. Funeral home owner Ryan Bernard, who got the idea from a funeral home in California, says the service is an “extra convenience” for people who “don’t want to deal with the hassle, the chaos of a large funeral” including such things as parking and the possibility of bad weather. He also intends offering live streaming of funerals in coming weeks.

Flowers for Valentine’s Day? So passé. One Chicago restaurant was this year offering “bacon bouquets” instead. The eatery, named Porkchop, made the “flowers” by placing rosettes of bacon (rolled into shape and then deep fried) atop plastic stems. Bouquets of six were selling for $US20. As the restaurant’s owner, Jovanis Bouargoub told a local news channel: “What’s not to love? It’s bacon.”

We’re used to the barber wielding scissors – and maybe even a hair-dryer – but in a new twist a haircutter in Gaza is using a blowtorch to help him style his customer’s locks. Palestinian Ramadan Odwan reportedly actually sets the hair of his clients temporarily on fire as he works. But don’t worry yourself – he assures people the procedure is “completely safe”.
