• A series of rather odd horses made their way through the streets of Greenwich in London this week. Now in its 7th year, ‘The London Pantomine Horse Race’ involved some 20 pairs of participants representing 16 nations who dressed in horse costumes to take part in the charity race which involved navigating a crowd-lined course, jumping small hurdles, and making pit stops at pubs along the course before finally crossing the finishing line. But it’s all for a good cause!
• Melbourne man Fraser Watt is reportedly attempting to set a new world record for the world’s longest Christmas Day by tracking the route of Santa Claus around the world. Watt, who aims to stretch his Christmas Day out to 47 hours (the previous record was apparently 46) by travelling on commercial flights almost 32,000 kilometres around the world (no sleigh for him!), hopes to raise $20,000 for UNICEF. He intends taking off from Auckland, New Zealand on midnight Christmas Eve, “[j]ust as Santa is unhitching his reindeer at the North Pole”, and will finish his trip in Honolulu.
• Christmas lights in the US city of Boston have come under attack this year with squirrels reportedly the culprits. Strings of festive lights hung across the Boston Common have reportedly been chomped by the furry creatures with a parks department spokesman saying it was apparently the squirrel’s fondness for copper which was apparently sparking the feeding frenzy.
