Stephan and Ally Barnreuther talk about their ministry on the famous European pilgrim route, the Camino de Santiago…

Ally: “We are Stephan and Ally Barnreuther and we are currently working with Youth With a Mission (YWAM) in a ministry called Hope House which is situated in Galicia, Northern Spain on the Portuguese Camino (St James’ Way).
“We minister to pilgrims on the Camino which is our main emphasis at present as it is high season. Our role is reaching out to the pilgrims by supporting them logistically as well as spiritually and emotionally through prayer, song and counselling.
“Alongside this, we are also involved in supporting pastors and other missionaries close by, as well as worldwide, through online events and groups, as well as in a counselling, mentoring and coaching capacity.
“I was blessed enough to receive the Lord at the tender age of 10. My sister had not long got saved on her travels to the heart of Amsterdam through YWAM. When she came home for the first time after that change, she told me about Jesus and His love and I said I wanted Jesus in my heart. I remember clearly asking God if He wanted to say anything to me and I heard Him respond ‘I love you’. I haven’t looked back on that decision.”

Stephan: “I was born and raised in a Christian family. My German parents are pastors and missionaries that were sent out to Spain from Germany. I have lived in Spain since the age of eight-years-old.
“I encountered the Lord in a personal way during one of the yearly church youth camps during my teenage years. God radically changed my life and woke up a longing in me to know Him more outside of my parents, which has just increased over the years.”

Ally: “We met in 1987 while in full-time ministry with YWAM, married and had three children.
“We have been shaped and trained by these years of ‘faithfulness’ in the same place day in and day out as well as serving through worship in the local church. Honestly, these years have really set us in good standing for life as well as ministry.
“Another huge impacting event that has shaped us has been doing the Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry for three years with the final year being an internship with Igniting Hope Ministries with Steve and Wendy Backlund. This season of realignment, readjustment and reignition has prepared and inspired us for the next phase.
“We continue to minister as ‘beliefs trainer coaches’ for Igniting Hope and we are also in the process of completing our official certification as coaches alongside.”

“We just recently moved to Galicia at the end of February 2021 after being away from Spain while doing the Bethel course. Our biggest goal in this role at the Camino is to reflect the love of the Father…the Father waiting for His prodigal sons and daughters to come home.
“God’s heart and love is so powerful that He is constantly pursuing each and everyone of us. It would be great to have a clear picture of what the future holds and if we did, we could surely market it!
“We see ourselves here for at least the next five to 10 years. We are here and all in until God says move.
“We sense that we are in a convergent moment in our lives where so many things have come together with ministry and our personal lives. We get to work alongside my sister and brother-in-law and also have the added gift of living by the sea.”
