SIGHT COMMENT POLICY

We encourage people to participate in civil and constructive discussions about our stories. All comments are moderated and we make no guarantees that any comments will appear. The “house rules” are as follows:

Be polite. Treat all others with respect and courtesy and please avoid all inappropriate language. Please refer to people mentioned in comments in the same way, using proper names as opposed to nicknames or insults.

Obey the law. We will not publish comments that are defamatory, which infringe copyright, incite violence or otherwise break the law.

Be concise. Long, rambling posts will be edited or not published. Likewise comments that reflect views which have already been amply aired may not be published.

Stay on topic. Please confine comments to the topic at hand. Comments which are misleading or without a factual basis may also not be published.

Links. At Sight’s discretion, we will publish links that constructively add to a conversation but will not publish links that are simply to opinion blogs – please sum up what you wish to say in a comment rather than simply point to another person’s comments on an issue. Likewise links which are simply an advertisement will generally not be published.

Please be aware that all comments are moderated (comments are generally left open for a month after the article is published). We endeavour to moderate all comments within 24 hours where possible but it may take longer on same occasions. If you think a comment is inappropriate and should be removed, please flag it and we will check it as soon as possible.
