YOUR SAY:SHOULD SMACKING BE BANNED?

24th August, 2009

New Zealand citizens have recently voted overwhelming in favor of relegalising the smacking of children in a national referendum. In Australia, meanwhile, there are moves to introduce a ban on corporal punishment for children. What do you think? Should smacking be banned?...

Smacking is essential for raising children.

The Good Book's wisdom in Proverbs 23:.."13 Do not withhold correction from a child, For if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. 14 You shall beat him with a rod, And deliver his soul from hell."....
Proverbs 3:12.. For whom the LORD loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights... Hebrews 12:6For whom the LORD loves He chastens,And scourges every son whom He receives.”

That's some of the Author of the Good Book' SAY!! and is many of our say too!!

They want to blame parents for everything a child does but take away all rights to discipline. Rights and responsibility have to work together and smacking [not beating up] is necessary and follows biblical principles.

Just wanna balance up my previous post…."beat up"....the biblical way, definitely NOT..eh.. like our Pacific Island Way...in many cases belt with metal buckle or bush cane delivered to the rar end with in anger. That is not biblical at all; that’s evil!! ..but again how could be measure “reasonable force” from a velocity of a thick Pacific Island arm with cane/belt on the end and nostril fuming with ethanol gas.…oich…that hurts!

I'm not sure that the exact translation is "beat" bot the "rod" is correctly translated as "a reed like stick" or "the end of a branch". THe bible also says "In your anger do not sin" and I am certain that Jesus would not want to see us "beating" our children. One or two good wallops with a "reed like stick" would do the trick and is biblical.

I don't think it should be banned. It never did me or my siblings or offspring any harm. In fact, it is the only way to instil proper behaviour at times.
