YOUR SAY: IS AUSTRALIA A RACIST COUNTRY?

15th June, 2009

Racism has hit the headlines again in Australia so we've decided to ask what you think. Is Australia a racist country? What have been your experiences? If you do believe racism is a problem, what can be done to help overcome this?

I don't think we are any more racist than plenty of other countries. It is difficult to get work or live in many overseas countries, whereas it is not all that hard here. There are as many, if not more, comments made to Australian whites as there are to coloureds or those from overseas. I have often heard comments from Caucasians to others of the same breed regarding weight and other peculiarities. It appears to be a general thing that occurs regardless of colour or creed. The important thing to my mind is follow the biblical instruction to turn the other cheek and ignore comments made by these ignorant people. Taking notice of them just lowers us to their mentality, which is fairly low. God bless.
