The issue of asylum seekers arriving by boat has dominated the headlines in Australia for the past couple of weeks following the capsizing of several boats laden with people on their way to Australia. Federal politicians have spent hours debating the issue but left for their mid-winter break early Friday morning without putting a new legislative solution in place. So what do you think? How should Australia handle people claiming asylum who arrive by boat? Is there a solution? Have Your Say below...

I lean more to the policy of the Greens on this issue. I believe their policy is by far the most humane and therefore the most closely aligned to biblical values. Having said that though, I also think they have made a huge mistake on this. Sometimes you have to compromise for the greater good. This situation is urgent and people are dying now, so I would much rather have seen Nick Xenophon's proposal of voting for Labor's idea but having a 12 month sunset clause be passed. That would hopefully stop people dying now and then give the opportunity to really push hard for a more humane solution in 12 months' time.
