2012 (M)
In a word: (What a) rush!

PLEASE FASTEN YOUR SEATBELTS! 2012 is a roller-coaster ride of special effects.
"OK - the story line is pretty simple and the way some people survive is nothing short of miraculous. But hey, the visuals are worth it."

A father has custody of his two children for a camping weekend. He heads into an old favourite spot only to find it fenced off and the army are keeping people out.
That doesn't stop them and they go looking for an old favourite spot - a particular lake. When they get there, it is dried out and steaming hot. The army picks them up, warns them about obeying signs, and lets them go.
On the way out they meet a "disaster freak" who reckons it is the beginning of the end of the world...
And then it begins...the 'freak' was right.
If you think you have seen enough "disaster movies" to last a lifetime, think again. Directed by Roland Emmerich (10000 BC, The Day After Tomorrow), 2012, which stars John Cusack and Amanda Peet, is one of the best special effects movies I have ever seen.
From the moment the earthquakes begin to break up the earth's crust, till various (but not all) the key people are safe on a giant "Noah's Ark"...you are on the edge of your seat.
I have not sat staring at special effects with my mouth open and my heart racing for a very long time. It was a rush!
OK - the story line is pretty simple and the way some people survive is nothing short of miraculous. But hey, the visuals are worth it.
If it is viewed late at night, don't expect to fall asleep too quickly afterwards.
