Cyclone Nargis cut a swathe of destruction through Burma when it made landfall on 3rd May, leaving a death toll which may yet range as high as 100,000. While the Irrawaddy Delta region bore the brunt of the cyclone, damage was also seen in areas closer to Rangoonand the city itself as shown here in images provided by World Vision Australia...

           Winds of almost 200 kilometres per hour brought down power lines and trees in Rangoon (Yangon).

      U Myint Maung's wooden house was destroyed. He and his family have taken refuge in a school with 5,000 other cyclone-affected people. "My family has nothing to eat and no water today."

       World Vision distributes relief items to cyclone-affected people in Thanlyin - a World Vision project 40 kilometres south Rangoon (Yangon).
