A THOUSAND PEOPLE EXPECTED AT NATIONAL MARRIAGE DAY RALLY IN CANBERRA

16th August, 2011

Organisers are expecting more than 1,000 people at today’s National Marriage Day rally at Parliament House in Canberra.

US author and newspaper columnist Rebecca Haglin will be guest speaker at the ‘Don’t Meddle with Marriage’ event which kicks off at 10am this morning.

The rally has been organised the Australian Family Association and the National  Marriage Coalition and has the support of the Australian Christian Lobby and the Dads4Kids Fatherhood Foundation.

Mary-Louise Fowler, national vice-president of the Australian Family Association says proposals to revise

marriage “intentionally deprives children of that most basic experience of having both a mum and dad”.

“This is wrong and must be rejected. Politicians choosing to meddle with marriage will surely pay at the polls."

Gerard Calilhanna from the National Marriage Coalition said moves to introduce “homosexual marriage” will “sever the legal and social connection between marriage and children, and children have a natural right to a mother and father”.
