Moscow has knocked off Tokyo as the world’s
most expensive city, according to a survey by global human
resources company Mercer.
The Worldwide Cost Of Living Survey 2006 measures
the comparative cost of more than 200 items - including housing,
transport, food, clothing, household goods and entertainment
- in 144 cities.
It shows that Tokyo - last year’s most expensive city
- dropped to third position while Seoul came in second. Others
in the top 10 include Hong Kong, London, Osaka, Geneva, Copenhagen,
Zurich and equal 10th place holder, Oslo, the capital of Norway,
and New York City in the US.
Sydney was the highest ranked Australian city at number 19.
No other Australian city made the top 50 - Melbourne occupies
74th place and Brisbane 99th.
Asuncion in Paraguay was the cheapest city of the 144.
