Australians will spend an average of $550 on gifts
this Christmas, according to the results of a survey by Sensis.
The organisation’s latest Consumer Report -
based on a sample of 1,500 Australians - shows 94 per cent
said they would take part in gift-giving as part of Christmas
celebrations buying, on average, presents for 11 other people.
The survey shows that more than 75 per cent of Australians
were planning on celebrating Christmas with a meal at home
and that 95 per cent would spend Christmas Day with their
family.
Slightly more than a third said they would attend a religious
service on the day.
Elsewhere, the report showed that on a scale of one to ten,
Australians were most concerned about the price of petrol,
followed by our health system, the environment and increases
in the cost of living.
The issues of least concern included unemployment, interest
rate rises and the local crime rate.
The report also showed that 53 per cent of people said they
disagreed with the proposed changes to the nation’s
workplace relations system while only 30 per cent said they
agreed.
