POEM

give me space
I need to breathe

not
the short, sharp gasp
not
the 'need it now' suck

give me space
I need to breathe

a long slow intake
peaceful and quietly brimming
enough to make me still
for a stretching moment.

give me space
I need to hear

not
the glancing jangle of
audible clutter
not
the clamour of invading need

give me space
I need to hear

the shivering whisper
of my Lover's call
filling the watchful silence
slowly spreading

give me space
I need to sing

not
the thin words of lack
empty of heart
weak with yearning

give me space
I need to sing

the quietest lilting
of delicious peace
a slow meditation
swaying with love

give me space
my Jesus
